permissions.json Operators and permission groups.
whitelist.json Players allowed to join when the whitelist is on.
bans.json Banned players.
mods/ Server mods and plugins (.jar or packs).
earlyplugins/ Early plugins (only loaded when Load Early Plugins is on).
universe/ Your worlds. This is what backups must include.
Backups/ Hytale's own automatic world backups.

Stop the server before editing JSON files, and keep the JSON valid (a missing comma stops the server starting).

/whitelist on · /whitelist off Turn the whitelist on or off.
/whitelist add Name · /whitelist remove Name Manage it.
/ban Name · /unban Name Ban or unban.
/kick Name Kick.

Mods

Hytale mods come in three kinds. Players don't need to install any of them; the server sends what's needed.

Kind File Goes in
Plugins .jar (Java code) mods/
Packs .zip (assets such as blocks and models) mods/
Early plugins .jar that hooks in at start-up earlyplugins/, and Load Early Plugins must be on in Startup

Most Hytale mods are published on CurseForge, and your server has a CurseForge page that installs them for you.

  1. Open your server and choose CurseForge. The tabs along the top are the content types: Plugins, Packs and Early Plugins.
  2. Search for a mod, or sort by Most popular, Most downloaded, Recently updated or Newest. Use All game versions to show only mods for your server's version.
  3. Choose a mod to see its details. Pick the file (version) to install; the newest is selected.
  4. If it lists Dependencies, leave Also install required dependencies ticked. Dependencies of dependencies are installed too, and anything already installed is skipped. A dependency marked incompatible must not be installed alongside it.
  5. Choose Install. The mod downloads straight to your server and appears on the Installed tab, first as Downloading…, then Installed.
  6. Restart the server, then check the console: each mod logs when it loads.

The Installed tab also has Check for updates (each outdated mod gets an Update to … button) and Remove. Restart after updating or removing mods.

Install by hand

  1. Download mods from a trusted source (CurseForge or the author's page) for your server version.
  2. Stop the server and upload them with Files into the folder from the table above.
  3. Add one mod at a time, then Start and check the console. If one fails, the server stops unless Ignore Broken Mods is on.
