First, read the error

  1. Open the Console and Start the server.
  2. Scroll to the first ERROR, or the first line that says Exception or Caused by. The last lines are often just "shutting down" noise.
  3. If the console has scrolled away, open Files → logs → latest.log. For crashes, also check the crash-reports folder.
  4. Check Activity: what changed just before it broke?

Common errors

What you see Cause Fix
OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space, or the server stops with no error and Memory was at the limit Not enough memory for your mods/plugins/players. Remove heavy mods, lower view distance, or upgrade the plan. Don't raise -Xmx above your plan.
UnsupportedClassVersionError, class file version 65.0 (or similar) The Java version is too old for this Minecraft version or a plugin. Startup → Docker Image: pick a newer Java (table).
Failed to bind to port / Address already in use The port is wrong or busy. Don't change server-port. Restart. If it keeps happening, contact us.
Unable to access jarfile server.jar The server jar is missing or misnamed. Settings → Reinstall to download it again. Check Server Jar File on Startup matches the file name.
You need to agree to the EULA EULA not accepted. Start the server and choose I Accept in the box, or set eula=true in eula.txt.
Could not load 'plugins/X.jar', UnknownDependencyException A plugin needs another plugin, or is for a different version. Install the dependency it names, or update/remove the plugin.
Missing dependency, Incompatible mods, Mixin apply failed (Fabric/NeoForge) Mod dependency or version problem. See mods troubleshooting.
Exception in server tick loop then a crash report A plugin, mod or corrupt chunk broke a tick. Open the crash report. The Description and first at … lines name the plugin or mod. Remove it, or restore a backup.
The server has not responded for 60 seconds! (watchdog), then a thread dump One tick took over a minute. The dump shows what was running. Often a huge farm, world-gen or a plugin. Profile with spark.
Stuck on Stopping for minutes A plugin or mod is blocking shutdown, or a save is huge. Wait 2–3 minutes, then Kill (it may lose unsaved changes).
Disk at the limit, No space left on device Plan's disk is full. Delete old logs, crash-reports, unused worlds. Backups don't count, but huge pre-generated worlds do.
Server keeps restarting by itself It's crashing, and the panel restarts it. Read the crash report as above.

The safe-mode test

When you can't tell which plugin or mod is the problem:

  1. Make a backup.
  2. Stop the server.
  3. In Files, rename plugins to plugins-off (or mods to mods-off).
  4. Start. If it starts, a plugin or mod is the cause.
  5. Stop, create a new empty plugins (or mods) folder, and move the jars back a few at a time, starting each time, until it breaks. The last batch has the culprit.

Still stuck?

Post in Support in CrashCrafts Chat with:

  • your server's name (from the panel),
  • what you changed before it broke,
  • the error lines, or a mclo.gs link to your latest.log. mclo.gs hides IP addresses for you.
