config.json

TShock's settings are in tshock/config.json. Stop the server, edit, Save, then Start (or run /reload for most settings).

Setting What it does
ServerPassword Password to join. Empty means open.
ServerName / UseServerName The name shown to players.
SpawnProtection / SpawnProtectionRadius Stops new players building near spawn.
EnableWhitelist Only players in tshock/whitelist.txt (IP addresses) can join. For friends-only servers a password is usually easier.
RequireLogin Players must log in to an account before they can do anything. Good against griefers on public servers.
DisableBuild Nobody can build (for event or lobby worlds).
HardcoreOnly / MediumcoreOnly Restrict character types.
ForceTime normal, day or night.
AutoSave Save the world automatically. Keep it on.

Max players and the world are set on the panel's Startup page and override the config.

Groups and staff

TShock has groups with permissions: guest (not logged in), default (registered players), vip, newadmin, admin, trustedadmin, owner, superadmin.

Task Command
Player registers an account /register password
Give someone a staff account /user add Name password admin
Move a user to another group /user group Name admin
Give a group a permission /group addperm vip tshock.tp.self
List groups /group list

Give staff the lowest group that does the job: newadmin for kicks and mutes, admin for bans and world tools. Keep owner for yourself.

Commands you'll use

Command Does
/who Who's online.
/kick Name reason Kick.
/ban add Name reason · /ban list · /ban del # Ban, list bans, lift a ban.
/mute Name Stop someone chatting.
/region define name Protect an area (after /region set 1 and /region set 2).
/time day · /rain stop · /invasion World controls.
/save Save the world now.
/off Save and shut down.

In the panel Console you can type the same commands without signing in.

Plugins

TShock plugins are .dll files.

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Upload the plugin's .dll into the ServerPlugins folder (create it if it doesn't exist).
  3. Start, and check the console for the plugin loading.
  4. Most plugins create a config in the tshock folder on first start.

Only use plugins built for your TShock version (TShock 5 for Terraria 1.4.4). Old TShock 4 plugins crash TShock 5. Popular ones: WorldEdit, Essentials+, SEconomy (economy), InfiniteChests.
